Job Description:

 

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Chief Cook to oversee the culinary operations at our retreat house. The Chief Cook will be responsible for planning nutritious and delicious menus, preparing meals for guests, managing kitchen staff, and ensuring all food safety and hygiene standards are met. The ideal candidate must create a warm and welcoming dining experience that complements the peaceful environment of our retreat.

 

Job Responsibilities:


  • Menu Planning: Design and prepare wholesome, nutritious menus suitable for a variety of dietary needs and preferences, in alignment with retreat programs.

  • Food Preparation: Cook and serve high-quality meals, snacks, and beverages for guests and special events.

  • Kitchen Management: Supervise kitchen staff, delegate tasks, and ensure efficient workflow.

  • Inventory & Supplies: Manage food inventory, order supplies, and maintain proper storage to minimize waste and ensure freshness.

  • Food Safety & Hygiene: Uphold strict health and safety standards, including proper food handling, sanitation, and cleanliness protocols.

  • Budgeting: Assist in managing food budgets, control costs, and ensure efficient use of resources.

  • Training & Supervision: Train kitchen staff on food preparation, safety procedures, and proper use of kitchen equipment.

  • Special Dietary Needs: Accommodate special diets (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc.) and communicate with guests regarding their dietary restrictions.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with retreat house management and program coordinators to align meal services with daily schedules and special events.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain records of food supplies, safety inspections, and sanitation protocols.

 

 

Job Specification:

 

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a professional cook, chef, or kitchen supervisor.

  • Knowledge of food preparation, safety standards, and sanitation regulations.

  • Ability to plan menus and manage kitchen operations efficiently.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to different dietary requirements and retreat schedules.

  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.


Education & Experience:

  • Culinary training or relevant certification preferred.

  • Prior experience working in a retreat, hospitality, or community setting is advantageous.

  • Experience in preparing meals for groups in a large-scale or institutional setting is a plus.
