Expanding ASEAN Horizon: Notre Dame of Marbel University and Ho Chi Minh Open University Explore Strategic Academic Partnership
HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam - In pursuit of greater internationalization and meaningful global engagement, Notre Dame of Marbel University (NDMU) conducted a benchmarking visit with Ho Chi Minh Open University (HCMOU), Vietnam, on September 14, 2026, opening new pathways for academic collaboration and international partnership.
Representing NDMU were Dr. Wilter C. Friales, Vice President for External Affairs, and Dr. Joan P. Palma, Vice President for Academics. They engaged in a productive dialogue with Dr. Tran Tuyet Thanh, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing, Dr. Phan Minh Vuong, Senior Lecturer, and Prof. Phuc Hoang Phan ,Prof. Phuc Hoang Phan, Ho Chi Minh Representative, exploring opportunities that can strengthen both institutions’ academic and international programs.
The benchmarking focused on several strategic areas, including research collaboration, faculty exchange, student mobility, internationalization, and quality assurance. These areas reflect a shared commitment to expanding learning opportunities, strengthening academic networks, and preparing students and faculty to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
Potential academic collaboration was also explored in programs such as Accountancy, Auditing, Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Work, Engineering, and the Social Sciences. These prospective partnerships could provide opportunities for joint research, academic exchanges, collaborative learning, and cross-cultural experiences for both faculty and students.
More than a benchmarking activity, the engagement represents a shared vision of building bridges across borders through education. By connecting institutions with complementary strengths, NDMU and HCMOU seek to create opportunities where knowledge, innovation, culture, and expertise can be shared for the benefit of their academic communities.
As a concrete step toward this vision, the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Notre Dame of Marbel University and Ho Chi Minh Open University is set to be finalized, marking an important milestone toward a sustained and mutually beneficial international partnership.
From Marbel to Ho Chi Minh, the journey toward global academic collaboration continues—one partnership, one exchange, and one shared vision at a time.
