NDMU Medical Technology Students Excel at the 10th Mindanao Research Convention

City of Koronadal, South Cotabato – The Notre Dame of Marbel University (NDMU) Medical Technology Department once again demonstrated its academic leadership and research excellence by securing multiple top placements at the highly competitive 10th Mindanao Research Convention, held on October 10, 2025.
The convention, co-sponsored by St. Alexius College and the Department of Science and Technology – Health Research Development Consortium (DOST-HRDCXII), took place at The Farm @Carpenter Hill, City of Koronadal, South Cotabato. The event drew researchers to discuss the critical theme: “One Health and Public Health: Collaborative Strategies for Global Health.” NDMU delegates distinguished themselves in both the poster and oral presentation categories, focusing on studies highly relevant to pressing regional public health challenges.
The university's most notable achievement was securing First Place in the Research Poster Competition for the study, "Association of Pesticide Exposure with Inflammatory Symptoms and Laboratory Parameters Among Rice Farmers." This successful team included presenters Samantha Clair T. Calvo and Mary Rose A. Pamplona, co-authors Anthony Lester T. Padillos and Maida K. Panegas, and was expertly advised by Efren II C. Deocades, RMT, MSMT.
NDMU also captured the Second Place award in the Research Poster Competition with the title, "Association Between Sodium Intake and hs-CRP in Assessing Cardiovascular Disease Risk." This significant work was presented by Kaye A. Dimamay and Cedric Amiel L. Sequito, co-authored by Sophia Heart M. Loria, and advised by Dexter E. Templonuevo, RMT.
In the Oral Presentation Competition, NDMU earned Third Place for the study, "Prevalence of Intestinal Polyparasitism Among Rice Farmers, Their Reported Symptoms, and Detection of Human Parasites in Farm Soil." This research was presented by Sittie Nor-Ayen S. Sarip, co-authored by Nove Clark E. Farrol, Marielle B. Fuentes, and Cj A. Manuel, and advised by Efren II C. Deocades, RMT, MSMT. Additionally, Kate S. Gonzales presented the group's research on "Association of Vitamin D Levels with Risk Factors for Developing Tuberculosis Among Household Contacts of Tuberculosis Patients," co-authored by Christian Dave F. Amen-amen, Joshua Volrick P. Reyes, and Reden Joshua D. Sioco, and advised by Ryan M. Pedregosa, RMT.
These impressive achievements underscore NDMU's strong commitment to evidence-based health solutions and its vital role in contributing to the regional research landscape.
The 10th Mindanao Research Convention provided a competitive platform for scientific discussion, drawing participation from top institutions across the area, including Kidapawan Doctors College, Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU), Notre Dame of Midsayap College, Southern Christian College, University of Mindanao, Brokenshire College Soccsksargen, Inc., and St. Alexius College.
