KORONADAL CITY – Efren C. Deocades II, RMT, MSMT, a clinical instructor at the College of Health Sciences of Notre Dame of Marbel University (NDMU), has been named one of only three scholars nationwide accepted into the highly selective Doctor in Health Research program for the academic year 2025-2026.

The prestigious scholarship is granted by the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) in collaboration with the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Graduate School and the University of South Australia. The program provides an alternative, three-year transnational track for scholars to acquire a doctorate degree, with a sharp focus on advanced health research.

Mr. Deocades joins Dr. Emmerson Gale S. Vista and Dr. Evan Glenn S. Vista in this elite cohort. According to the council, a significant number of candidates vied for a spot in the program, but only these three were admitted, highlighting the competitive nature of the selection process.

The scholars formally began their journey with an orientation meeting on September 3, 2025, to discuss their obligations under the program. The comprehensive scholarship provides full coverage of school fees, a monthly stipend, learning materials and connectivity allowance, transportation allowance, group personal accident insurance, and a dissertation grant.

Over the course of the program, the scholars will develop advanced skills in research writing, implementation, publication, and presentation. They are expected to play a key role in strengthening health research in the Philippines. Their future work aims to address gaps in health, drive innovation in the health sector, and promote the advancement of health science in the country.

This achievement positions Mr. Deocades to become a leading contributor to health research and development within the SOCCSKSARGEN region and beyond.
