Tagaytay City, Philippines – John Ryan B. Huqueriza, a 4th Year Social Work student of Notre Dame of Marbel University (NDMU), took the spotlight at the 23rd General Chapter of the Marist Institute, held at the CCT Retreat and Training Center in Tagaytay. Representing the Marist Youth Ministry of Asia and serving as a Senator of the Supreme Student Government (SSG), Huqueriza delivered a powerful presentation on the realities and struggles faced by young people in Asia today.

Joining him was Lezter Jhun Laurie, a student leader from Notre Dame of Dadiangas University (NDDU). Together, they shared stories of hope, resilience, and perseverance that deeply resonated with the Marist capitulants. Their reflections offered fresh insights and renewed energy to continue the Marist mission of reaching out to young people worldwide. The breakout session was further distinguished by the presence of Br. Ernesto Barba Sánchez, Superior General of the Marist Institute.

Reflecting on his experience, Huqueriza shared: “Meeting the Marist Brothers in person was beyond what I imagined. More than the excitement of presenting and conversing with them, it was the profound encounter that mattered most. The Marist Mission started by our Founder, St. Marcellin Champagnat, is indeed alive. Being Marist is truly a proud moment — because we are not just local, we are global.”

For Huqueriza, standing before the highest gathering of the Marist Brothers was both a privilege and a testament to NDMU’s continuing role in forming leaders who embody the values of Champagnat. His presence, alongside other youth representatives, was a living witness that the Marist mission, born in 1817, remains relevant and vibrant, entrusted to today’s young generation with zeal and courage.
