Elma Rafil has been appointed as the new Coordinator of the Laity Desk for the East Asia Province, with her term beginning on June 23, 2025, and concluding on June 23, 2028. This marks a significant step forward in the province’s ongoing effort to deepen the lay vocation and enhance the involvement of the laity in the Marist life and mission across the province.

In this role, Miss Rafil will serve as a key member of the Laity Commission of the East Asia Province and as Chairperson of the Laity Committee for the Philippine Sector. Her leadership is expected to advance the province’s objectives: revitalizing spiritual and community life, nurturing a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Marist lay vocation, and reigniting the mission—particularly among the youth, marginalized communities, and our shared environment. Moreover, she will play a crucial part in the ongoing efforts toward reconfiguration and fostering a spirit of greater communion among all Marist laity and Brothers.

Currently, Miss Rafil is a member of the Extended Secretariat of the Laity. This experience has provided her with valuable insights into lay Marist life and mission in Asia and beyond. Such familiarity will support her effectiveness in her new role as Coordinator of the Laity Desk.

Her appointment aligns with the province’s vision of shared leadership rooted in purpose, aiming to strengthen shared life among Brothers and lay and foster renewal and growth of Marist lay vocation.

Miss Rafil will work closely with Br. Ernie G. Sentina, FMS, the Link Provincial Councilor for the Laity Commission. Together, they will ensure that the laity assumes a meaningful and impactful role in the province’s mission, while also fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the lay Marist vocation.

The province has confidence that Miss Rafil’s dedication will inspire and encourage the laity to actively participate in the Church’s mission, helping to build a community rooted in Marist spirituality, shared life, and collective mission.
