The Marist community and the academic world mourn the passing of a visionary leader, Br. Crispin P. Betita, FMS. A man of deep faith and tireless dedication, Br. Crispin’s life was defined by his commitment to education, service, and the Marist charism. While his influence spanned decades, his transformative leadership as the University President of Notre Dame of Marbel University (NDMU) from 1999 to 2006 remains a cornerstone of the institution’s history.

When Br. Crispin assumed the presidency in 1999, he brought with him a clear vision for academic excellence and social responsibility. During his seven-year tenure, NDMU experienced a period of significant growth and stabilization. He was known not just as an administrator, but as a "Brother President"—someone who walked the halls with a gentle smile and a firm belief in the potential of every student.

Under his guidance, the university strengthened its identity as a premier Catholic institution in the region.

Born on October 28, 1942, Br. Crispin dedicated over 80 years to a life of purpose. His journey as a Marist Brother (FMS) was more than a career; it was a calling. He lived by the mission of St. Marcellin Champagnat, making Jesus known and loved through the education of youth, especially the most neglected.

Even after his presidency concluded in 2006, his influence did not wane. He remained a pillar of wisdom and a source of inspiration for his fellow Brothers and the thousands of alumni who passed through NDMU during his era.

Br. Crispin P. Betita returned to the Creator on May 13, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy that is etched into the very bricks of Notre Dame of Marbel University and carried in the hearts of those he mentored.

As we look back on the years 1999–2006, we see more than just a timeline of professional achievements; we see the heart of a man who believed that education was the most powerful tool to change the world.

"To bring up children properly, we must love them, and love them all equally." – St. Marcellin Champagnat

Br. Crispin lived this truth every day. His journey has ended, but his light continues to shine through the lives of the "Marist-made" professionals serving the world today.

Rest in peace, Br. Crispin.

Your mission is accomplished.
