Notre Dame of Marbel University’s (NDMU) College of Business, Governance, and Accountancy, through its Business Administration Department, is taking experiential learning to new heights with the launch of its flagship Service-Learning Program (SLP)—a dynamic initiative that connects academic theory with real-world business practice.
To set the program in motion, the department held an engaging Meet and Greet with local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on September 11, 2025 at BRC Convention Hall. This gathering marked the first step of the SLP, bringing students face-to-face with their future community partners and laying the foundation for a semester of hands-on collaboration.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
The Service-Learning Program offers students the opportunity to transform their classroom knowledge into actionable strategies for local businesses. Partner MSMEs will work with student teams on projects such as marketing plan development, advertising strategies, and retailing of One Town, One Product (OTOP) items, ensuring that both students and entrepreneurs benefit from a fresh exchange of ideas. By fostering inclusive economic growth and quality education, the initiative echoes key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
The department emphasized that the program is more than just an academic requirement. It is a mutually enriching partnership, one that allows students to develop industry-ready skills and a global perspective, while helping local businesses strengthen their operations and reach wider markets.
A Partnership for Growth
The Meet and Greet became more than just an introduction, it served as the spark for lasting connections between students and their partner businesses. Conversations about shared goals and upcoming projects set the tone for a semester of meaningful engagement.
Through the Service-Learning Program, the Business Administration Department continues to empower students to think beyond borders, support the growth of local enterprises, and uphold its mission of creating graduates who are ready to make an impact—from South Cotabato to the global stage. In doing so, the program directly supports the principles of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)—integrating environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and strong governance practices into both academic learning and real-world business solutions.
