School leaders and Presidents from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Region 12 converged at Cinco Niñas for a vital dialogue aimed at aligning regional initiatives with national Higher Education goals. The forum, titled Aligning Regional Strategic Initiatives to Achieve Higher Education Excellence, brought together key academic decision-makers to collectively chart a course toward a more dynamic and globally competitive education landscape.

At the heart of the discussion was Dr. Rody P. Garcia, JD, CHED Regional Director for Region 12, who set the direction by outlining the strategic priorities for the region. Dr. Garcia emphasized the need for HEIs to synchronize their institutional plans with the CHED Strategic Focus 2024-2028, built on five core pillars: Access and Success, Quality and Excellence, Internationalization, Social Responsibility, and Good Governance. The dialogue also introduced the new CHED Chairperson, Dr. Shirly C. Agrupis, and her forward-looking ACHIEVE Agenda. The acronym stands for:

  • Access and Equity

  • Curriculum Relevance and Internationalization

  • Higher Education Research and Innovation

  • Institutional Sustainability

  • Engagement and Extension

  • Value-Laden Governance

  • Enabling Education Technology

This agenda provides a clear and ambitious roadmap for all HEIs in the country. One of the institutions actively participating in the dialogue was Notre Dame of Marbel University (NDMU), which found its existing institutional thrusts strongly aligned with the CHED’s strategic direction. NDMU’s mission, centered on Character, Competence, and Culture, naturally resonates with the national focus on Quality and Excellence and Social Responsibility.

NDMU’s drive for international partnerships and certifications aligns with the goal of Internationalization. The institution’s strong emphasis on research and innovation, coupled with its focus on values and ethics, mirrors the Higher Education Research and Innovation and Value-Laden Governance components of the ACHIEVE agenda.

The dialogue concluded with a shared commitment from all HEI leaders to integrate these national priorities into their own institutional strategic plans. The collaboration between CHED Region 12 and its partner HEIs marks a significant step forward, promising a future of aligned efforts and collective excellence for higher education in the region.
