NDMU Representatives Complete International Train-the-Trainer Certificate Course

Three representatives of Notre Dame of Marbel University successfully completed the intensive five-day Train the Trainer Certificate Course conducted from August 24 to 28, 2026, in Makati, Metro Manila.

Representing NDMU were Dr. Joan P. Palma, Vice President for Academics; Mr. Ryan M. Pedregosa, RMT, Program Coordinator of the Medical Technology Department; and Mr. John Tongco, IBED-Senior High School Faculty Member. They were among only 10 participants who took part in the intensive training program.

The program was conducted by the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI/AHK Philippines) and facilitated by Ms. Lisa Ulmer, a German trainer. The course is based on the international certificate course “Ausbildung der Ausbilder Basis International – Train the Trainer International Basic” of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and was delivered in English with consideration of Philippine requirements.

Designed to strengthen participants’ competencies as workplace trainers, the five-day program combined theoretical inputs with intensive exercises and practical applications. It covered key areas of the training process, including the identification of training needs, formulation of measurable learning objectives, preparation of instructional outlines, selection and application of appropriate training methods, learner engagement, feedback and reflection, and assessment of learning outcomes.

A strong emphasis was placed on learner-centered and competency-based training, with participants expected not only to understand training principles but also to demonstrate their ability to apply them in realistic workplace contexts.

The program culminated in an AHK practical examination, which required participants to conduct a 15-minute practical instruction based on a workplace training need they had developed during the course. This was followed by a technical discussion with the examiners, during which participants explained and justified their instructional decisions. Successful completion of the course and passing the AHK assessment qualified the participants for the international certificate.

NDMU’s participation in the program forms part of the University’s continuing commitment to strengthening the professional competencies of its academic leaders and faculty. The training is particularly relevant to the University’s continuing efforts to enhance faculty development, workplace-oriented learning, and the systematic preparation of trainers who can facilitate effective and meaningful learning experiences.

The competencies gained from the program are expected to contribute to the further development of NDMU’s faculty and personnel training initiatives and strengthen the University’s capacity to promote learning that effectively connects knowledge, professional competence, and workplace practice.
