The Notre Dame of Marbel University (NDMU) joined the inauguration of newly completed facilities at the Koronadal City District Jail (KorCDJ) on June 22, 2026, reaffirming its commitment to community engagement and social development. The ceremony marked the formal opening of the Multi-Purpose Hall, Livelihood Area, Searching Area, and Visitation Area, facilities designed to support the welfare, rehabilitation, and holistic development of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).
In line with NDMU’s commitment to extending its vision beyond academic excellence and student formation, the University continues to promote social harmony and meaningful community engagement through its various extension programs. Through the Office of Community Extension Services, headed by Mr. Melvin S. Apenton, MA, NDMU participated in the inauguration ceremony together with officials from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the City Government of Koronadal, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) South Cotabato, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) South Cotabato, and various partner institutions.
Through its support for facility improvements, livelihood programs, and library enhancement initiatives, NDMU contributes to the rehabilitation and holistic development of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs), fostering a more conducive environment for learning, skills development, and personal transformation. The newly inaugurated facilities are expected to expand educational and livelihood opportunities, strengthen values-formation activities, and improve spaces for family visitation and support services within the jail.
NDMU’s involvement reflects its commitment to fostering partnerships that uphold human dignity, social responsibility, and transformative education. Through collaborative efforts with government agencies and community organizations, the university continues to support programs that contribute to the rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals into society.
The inauguration highlighted the value of cooperation among educational institutions, government agencies, and community stakeholders in creating opportunities for growth, restoration, and positive social change.
