KORONADAL CITY – Adrian Pete Medina Pregonir, a faculty member of the Senior High School Department of Notre Dame of Marbel University (NDMU), has been conferred the Gawad Sulo ng Lipi, a prestigious Pluma Special Award presented by the Kapisanan ng mga Filipino Awtor at Manunulat sa Pilipinas, Inc. in Baguio City.


The award recognizes Pregonir's outstanding contributions to Philippine literature and culture, particularly his work in poetry, essay, translation, and literary education across Filipino and regional languages. Along with Dr. Lakandupil Garcia (translator and linguist) and Gene Alcantara (multi-awarded writer, poet, journalist), the Gawad Sulo ng Lipi is bestowed upon writers whose works "illuminate national identity and strengthen the country's literary heritage."


A Filipino educator, writer, editor, and translator, Pregonir is known for his advocacy that literature extends beyond printed texts and lives within classrooms, communities, and cultural conversations. He writes and translates in Filipino, Hiligaynon, and Kinaray-a, and actively works to preserve and promote mother-tongue languages in Mindanao.


Pregonir is a Cum Laude graduate of the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Filipino from Notre Dame of Marbel University. He currently teaches at the NDMU Integrated Basic Education Department – Senior High School, while also working as a writer and translator for television segments and newspapers.


His literary excellence has earned him numerous national awards and recognitions, including:


  • Gawad Sulo ng Lipi – Award for Excellence in Literary Arts, Kapisanan ng mga Filipino Awtor at Manunulat sa Pilipinas, Inc.

  • Makata ng Taon 2024, Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF), for excellence in Filipino poetry

  • National Achievement Award 2024, National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Committee on Literary Arts

  • Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature (67th Year)

Beyond writing, Pregonir has participated as a fellow and panelist in various national literary workshops and conferences organized by institutions such as the University of the Philippines, the Davao Writers Guild, and Caraga State University.


His works have appeared in leading literary journals and anthologies such as University of the Philippines Likhaan: A Journal of Philippine Contemporary Literature, Liwayway Magazine, Dagmay, Cotabato Literary Journal, The Reflective Practitioner, Luna: A Journal of New Filipino Writing, Entrada, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Ani, among many others. He is also a sector representative for literary arts at the Provincial Tourism Arts Council of South Cotabato and organized the Dagyaw South Cotabato Writers Workshop.


As an educator and literary practitioner, Pregonir emphasizes the role of literature in healing, connecting, and transforming communities. His work in teaching, editing, and translating reflects a deep commitment to cultural preservation, critical literacy, and the continuous enrichment of Philippine letters.


The Gawad Sulo ng Lipi affirms Adrian Pete M. Pregonir's place among the country's distinguished contemporary writers and cultural workers and underscores the growing contribution of Mindanaoan voices to the national literary landscape.
