The Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP) of Smart Communications, Inc. is now set up in NDMU. Under SWEEP, Smart is establishing partnerships with schools to raise the quality of ECE education in the country.
There are 107 universities and colleges offering ECE courses nationwide and NDMU is one of the 24 schools to receive this offer, and is the first university in Mindanao to partner with Smart.
The program is designed to complement the school’s existing ECE program by providing additional material on the latest developments in wireless technologies.
With the wireless lab in place, NDMU students are given more opportunity to bridge theory with application. They can touch, manipulate, and even disassemble the equipment in the lab.
The wireless communications laboratory which was inaugurated last September 8, 2003, contains equipment from an analog cellular network such as radio cabinets, rectifier units, antennae, a battery bank, and a control computer.
The lab also houses a fully operational Smart cell site for its GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) network to provide additional coverage for the campus.
SWEEP includes a continuing education program where Smart will periodically deploy its engineers to provide lectures and make presentations on various topics like GSM Technology, General Packet Radio Services (GPRS), Short Message Services (SMS), and Multimedia Message services (MMS). |
